Oil and Gas HVAC Equipment

Oil and gas HVAC equipment with a 14-week lead time will stall your entire project. Explosion-proof fans, heaters, and dampers already have long production cycles. Lock into a single manufacturer and you are at the mercy of their backlog.

Knape Associates supplies classified ventilation, heating, and damper systems for onshore oil and gas facilities. We represent over 30 industrial HVAC manufacturers. When one production line is backed up, we pivot to an equivalent compliant unit from another. Your spec stays intact. Your schedule holds.

We have been doing this since 1949. US-made equipment with manufacturer-backed guarantees.

What We Supply for Onshore Oil and Gas

Every product category below is sourced from multiple manufacturers. If your preferred configuration has a long lead time, we cross-reference to an equivalent compliant unit from another production line.

Equipment Category Types Available Hazardous Area Ratings Applications
Explosion-proof and spark-resistant fans Tube axial, vane axial, bifurcated, centrifugal, (backward inclined, forward curved, radial), high-pressure blowers Class I Div 1 and Div 2, AMCA Type A/B/C, FRP coatings for corrosive service Process area ventilation, pump station exhaust, building pressurization
Hazardous location heaters Duct heaters, unit heaters, immersion heaters (screw plug, tank/pipe insert), cabinet heaters, heat trace cables Class I Div 1 and Div 2, UL listed, T-code rated Instrument winterization, process fluid heating, building heat, freeze protection
Fire, smoke, and gas-tight dampers Gas-tight shut-off, UL 555 fire, UL 555S fire/smoke, control (parallel/opposed blade), backdraft, fiberglass/FRP UL listed, gas-tight leakage rated Hazardous gas isolation, zone separation, pressurization control, exhaust systems
Explosion-proof actuators Rotary, linear, fail-safe spring return, acid/alkali resistant Class I Div 1 and Div 2, ATEX, IECEx Damper automation on gas detection events, safety instrumented systems
Louvers and air intake Fixed blade, drainable, sand trap, fiberglass/FRP Corrosion-resistant configurations Facility air intake, weather protection, pre-filtration

Process Area Ventilation for Class I Division 1 and Division 2 Atmospheres

Refinery process areas and petrochemical plant floors need continuous air changes to keep hydrocarbon vapor concentrations below safe thresholds. Every fan in these spaces must meet the area classification for the environment it serves.

We supply spark-resistant and explosion-proof fans in every configuration these applications require:

  • Tube axial fans for building ventilation and high-volume air changes
  • Bifurcated fans where the motor must sit outside the airstream for high-temperature or contaminated exhaust
  • Centrifugal blowers (backward inclined, forward curved, radial) for process air and pressurization
  • Vane axial fans for high-volume, low-pressure ventilation

Every fan can be built with totally enclosed motors, 316 stainless steel fasteners, and anti-sparking construction rated to AMCA spark-resistant standards. FRP-coated construction is available on all fan types for severely corrosive environments with continuous chemical exposure.

Control Room Pressurization Packages for Refineries and Petrochemical Plants

Loss of positive pressure in a refinery control room lets toxic or flammable gases reach the operators running the entire process. NFPA 496 Type Z pressurization prevents that.

This is not a single product. It is five or six product categories from multiple manufacturers, coordinated and delivered as one package.

Component Function
Redundant supply fans with automatic switchover Maintain continuous positive pressure if primary fan fails
Gas-tight isolation dampers Seal the building envelope on gas detection events
Explosion-proof actuators with fail-safe spring return Drive dampers to safe position on loss of power
Pressure monitoring controls Maintain minimum 0.1″ WC positive pressure
Gas detection integration at air intakes Trigger switchover to recirculation mode on elevated readings

We spec every component to your area classification drawings, coordinate delivery across vendors, and ship it as one package under one purchase order. You get a system, not a parts list.

Why a Multi-Manufacturer Distributor Instead of a Single-Brand Packaged Unit

Single-Brand Manufacturer Knape Associates
Source One production line 30+ manufacturer production lines
Lead time risk If their line slips, you wait We pivot to an equivalent compliant unit from another manufacturer
Mid-project spec changes Start over with their engineering team We re-spec from our full catalog without starting from scratch
Component failure after commissioning Locked into their replacement parts and timeline We source replacement from multiple manufacturers
Equipment selection Their products only Best available components across the industry

One Purchase Order, One Point of Contact

This is not about being the cheapest option. It is about getting the right equipment on site, built to spec, on time.

75 years of manufacturer relationships give us access most buyers cannot get on their own. You cannot call most industrial HVAC manufacturers directly and get a spec’d unit built to your area classification. You go through a distributor. We are that distributor.

Our engineering team reviews your area classification drawings, specs the equipment, and coordinates delivery across multiple vendors. One point of contact for the entire ventilation, heating, and damper package.
